{Everyday in May} - Letting Go

We were discussing this saying at Bible Study last night, you've probably heard it beofre...

"God won't give you more than you can handle"

I totally disagree with it. I think at times God does give you more than you can handle. I think it's because He wants you to draw closer to Him
He wants you to let go and let Him.

In Exodus 14, Moses tells the Israelites, that they only need to be silent, the Lord will fight for them.

I've seen this play out in my life in so many mays, but especially in the last 2 years.

I arrived in Haiti almost 2 years ago, single, alone and ready to transform education in Haiti. Two months in, the two staff members on ground left and I was left alone....I had people to guide me and help me make some decisions, who were stateside, but for the most part it was me...let me tell you,

It was WAY more than I could handle.

I couldn't change the circumstances, and I didn't want to throw in the towel...so I had to let God...I wasn't capable. It still was hard, and there were many days I wanted to leave and run from God's calling, but there have been so many blessings in the process of letting go.

So when God gives you more than you can handle...Let go and Let Him!!!

I heard a pastor say it this way. God won't give you things that your character isn't ready for. Yes it may be more than you can handle and that may be to teach to give it all to Him and to let Him.
But he will only give us so much that we can't stand up, retain our character and glorify Him in the circumstance.
This doesn't always means that we choose to keep our character in those moments though. I've been in some pretty awful times in life, took my eyes off of God and it all went downhill from there. But that was my choice. And it went wrong, horribly wrong. And then it did become more than I could handle.
But if we keep our eyes on Him it is never too much because He is the one doing all the work. (no matter how much you want to walk away.)
